Republicans to the Rescue!

What will be the first thing they do to tackle our severe economic problems? Why, fully extending the Bush Tax Cut. Here's House GOP Conference Chairman Mike Pence:Well, we're going to stay focused on Election Day. But I think before that, we're going to continue to demand that this administration and this Congress make it clear that no American will see a tax increase in January of next year, no matter how wealthy.Ok, I added those last 4 words. Obama keeps getting criticized for always "blaming Bush," but, really - Obama hasn't given any indication that he understands the fundamental problem we are facing (grotesque levels of debt of which only a fraction can ever be paid off) - but obviously the razor-sharp analytical minds in the Republican leadership haven't managed to catch site of the forest, either.

Ive predicted elsewhere that the first thing the GOP will fight for is to keep the Bush Tax cut for the top 1%. They will spend a lot of political capital on that fight.

They really are a stupid bunch, completely "pwned" by their biggest donors. Here we are with defecits unimaginably large, and we are afraid to let taxes simply go back on the top 1% to the level that they used to be merely 10 years ago? Its absolutely ridiculous.

Tax policy has a reverse "ratchet effect" (to steal from Larry Auster). Once they are lowered, the GOP will fight to ever see them increased upon anyone. The top 1% owns what.....53% of the total wealth in this country last I checked? Its ridiculous to think they'd br broken by having the dividends taxed at 20% instead of 15% or whatnot.

Unbelievable. The GOP is lucky the Democrats dont have the sense to run true moderates. The GOP would never win.

They're pretty much trapped by their fundraising imperatives - they're only viable source of funding are wealthy businessmen who greatly covet low taxes, limp regulation, impoverished immigrants and free trade - not a great deal for most Americans.

I share your pessimism regarding the ability of Republians to right the economic ship but at least I'm pretty sure they wouldn't sue a state for trying to enforce immigration laws so I guess I'm stuck voting my usual.

There's no alternative to voting Republican, in my opinion, but I'm resigned to seeing the same cycle continue - Democrats quickly piss off (white) voters, get voted out, Republicans come in, do little of substance but stick around for a decade, screw up, then Democrats win, then piss off (white) voters...but eventually there won't be enough white voters, and the cycle will end.
