More Collateral Damage
Oops. What else are you supposed to say when you fire on what you think is the enemy and instead you end up killing 20-some innocent civilians? I mean mistakes happen. Nobody's perfect. These things happen. You have to take the good with the bad. I'm just having trouble trying to figure what the "good" is supposed to be - what are we doing there, again?

I can't for the life of me figure out what we're doing there. What will constitute a victory? We all know that (a) we really can't expect to eliminate the Taliban, and (b) once we leave they will resume their push to dominate Afghanistan again. In the mean time we kill innocents, and get our own men killed. Nice.
It makes absolutely no sense. But I think it's like an old man's comb-over - a man doesn't choose that style, it evolves over time as he loses his hair. Our presence there made sense on 9/12/01, but not on 2/22/10.
What are we doing there? Why, we're there for the sole benevolent purpose of helping guide the Afghan people to their natural state of being a civilized, western-style democracy, with a vibrant, consumer-oriented market economy - a state which only decades of bad, American advice-rejecting governance has deprived them of enjoying.
It's all part of the noble crusade to bring them the blessings of freedom and democracy.
Or just exterminate them all.
Whichever.
