A New Terror Idea
A few weeks ago, Freakonomist Steven Levitt floated an idea for how a new terror attack might take shape. He suggested a handful of snipers randomly shooting people across the country. His idea is based on the notion that terrorists' goals are to paralyze the nation in fear and hysteria, while I think their goal is to, like, kill a whole bunch of people in one big, loud, explosive, scary act.
But assuming for a moment that he is right - that fear and hysteria is the terrorist's aim, then I think if I were the leader of a terror cell, this is what I'd do: I'd have my jihadis set up in different regions of the country, and have them roam about placing nooses in various semi-public locales to be discovered under mysterious circumstances. We know what would happen. All the broadcast and cable news would be covering it 24/7, obviously. Racial animosities would flare up across the land. Law enforcement, from local police departments to the FBI, would find their resources being diverted from their normal crime-fighting duties to noose-incident investigations. The economy will suffer as emloyees are taken from their work and sent to diversity training classes. Learning in our educational institutions will be disrupted as students attend rallies rather than classes. Businesses will face huge productivity hits as work will cease while their workplaces turn into crime investigation scenes. Best of all, the perpetrators of these acts are apparently unidentifiable as even myriad security cameras in places such as faculty buildings and major retail outlets are unable to detect the culprit. Hmmm - maybe this is what's happening.

So depressingly true Zeil.
Why didn't the security video not yeild any clues. We know in which hours the noose at Columbia must have been placed. How many people on that floor of that building at night?
What Im "afraid of" is that she or a black student "activist" did it to stir it up at Columbia, but the police would not be able to prove they actually "did it" because the security video only showed those coming and going in the front door to that level of the building and not the noose on the door itself being hung. If there were twenty people on that level after she locked up her office that evening before the next morn, you'd have to give them all lie detector tests (which of course wouldn't hold up in court).
Being that so many college-'hate' crimes turn out to be hoaxes (like Kerri Dunn, Duke Rape, etc.), Columbia probably just wants this to go away at the very least. I guarantee you they dont want to find out it was a hoax and believe they'd actively try to suppress it if it was and it was in their power to do so.
Kerri Dunn did a 1 year sentence for her crime, which is good. But the fallout from a hoax vs. an actual "hate" act are still wildly disproportionate. Most notable in the area of collective guilt - when a minority/female reports an alleged act of hate, not only are all whites/males considered to be complicit (and therefore subject to punishment in the form of mini-reeducation camps (a/k/a "Diversity Training") but the assumption of guilt is immediate and absolute. There is no reversal of that assumption, and no appeal from the conviction.
I like how amazingly credulous the media is about these nooses, the "Church Burning Scandal" of our time.
Blacks are the biggest bunch of whiny, spoiled useless people ever. Nooses? What bullshit. And has anyone heard anything more about the "crime" up at Columbia? I wonder why?
miles,
If they caught a white guy, you would never hear the end of it. The way the media, blacks and liberals made it sound was as though the Kolumbia Klavern of the KKK was riding horses through campus, shooting guns, burning crosses and hanging nooses. Why, dozens of lynched blacks were right around the corner! I
It is is bullshit and everyone knows it. Of course I have no doubt that when the story gets out of who committed this horrid crime, the excuse will be made that it was done to draw attention to rampant "institutional" racism, of which there is none.
