Are Men Smarter Than Women?
This is a loaded question, of course, but that's how the media are covering a new study showing a slight but significant IQ advantage for men. The real question is "Are there more super-smart men than super-smart women" because it is the super-smart who drive innovation and dominate the upper tiers of high-powered and high-prestige careers. A commenter on a Gene Expression post on this matter noted
660,270 males took the [2004 Math SAT], 758,737 females. On the math test, 21,507 males were above 750, with 9,800 females above 750.You'd have to have a Math SAT score between 200 and 250 not to understand the implications of these results. Or be on this committee.

Free Dog the Bounty Hunter.
The bush parade certainly takes some interesting turns. There he is the Chimp in Chief like a giant parade balloon with his clowns (cheney, rice, wolfowitz and others) on the ropes of this unwieldy but predictable float. He is not inflated with evil. However, whatever substance it is that animates him does drift toward evil in the breezes of his own incompetence. There must be other forces and agendas in the man, but they can't be determined because the dolt is kept well beyond the reaches of scrutiny. Does anyone have a solid handle on who he is? It could be the most simple explanation: He is a disaster. Period. But who knows?
Now, his justice dept. will extradite Dog the Bounty Hunter and two of his family members to Mexico where they are guilty of capturing an American rapist. Bush enforcing the laws of Mexico. How absolutely perfect.
If the man had an ounce of dignity, he would pardon the three heroes, and tell Mexico where they can shove it.
But no, they have fallen under the shadow of the grinning balloon. Eclipsed by the Curse of Jorge, they will be added to Bush's toll.
The parade moves on like some bad dream. The bobbing inflated head comes around the corner in search of its next disaster. The stupid grin, the shrug of the shoulders.

Bravo to Mr. Ziel for writing such an article, as it could be dangerous to even hint at such a patently sexist notion being the only male in a household full of females (I hope none of them read his blog).
Does it ever make you wonder though, why females get much better grades in school these days than males, and dominate the Honor Society in schools, yet consistently fail to match male students on standardized tests? You don't suppose it could have anything to with the fact that feminists now largely make up the ranks of public school teachers, do you?
I'd be interested to know how black females compare to males (of any race) on test scores these days. Maybe not that well, but thanks to ever-expanding government/government-contracting employment, they don't have to. Having lived in the home of affirmative action government employment, the Baltimore-Washington area, I'm quite familiar with that certain social type, the ultimate affirmative action twofer, the harebrained black female government worker, with a big, fat mouth (to match her butt) that can't shut-up, driving her co-workers up the wall, all the while doing very little of any value all day long, while mysteriously still keeping her job and in fact getting lots of promotions.
We're always hearing about what an all-around smartypants our Secretary of State is (personally, I wonder), but if she is, she's gotta be the exception.
Ok, well as they say on TV, the opinions expressed by tom.m_YorkPA do not necessarily reflect the opinions of this site owwner.
But as to some of your specific points, in the study by Rushton that I cited (you ought to read him, if you like politically incorrect opinions) he notes that girls mature faster and thus do relatively better on tests. But the feminization of teaching (e.g.,"How do you think the Native Americans felt when the white settlers took their land and stole their food") has been credited with reducing boys' interest in learning, and thus lowering boys' grades. I know in the local high schools around me the top ten are dominated by girls, but boys still clean their clocks on the SAT (although they've dumbed that down now, too).
As far as Condi, I agree she's probably not all that smart, but she's still smart enough to be an exception for any sex/race - say the top 1 or 2 percentile of all people. But, yes, she's way off the charts for her demographic.
Re: tom.m_YorkPA's politically incorrect assertion, let me (in cowardish anonymity) mention my civil-servant friend whose incompetent black secretary started filing grievances against him after he turned down her sexual advances. Things were looking grim for him for a while, career-wise, but once they promoted her to be his peer the problem basically resolved itself.
tom.m_yorkpa you are my hero!

I'm reluctant to dump on black men, as I can't help but feel sorry for (many of) them. They commonly grow up in environments these days where they are the constant object of contempt by teachers and even their mothers, and have been dumbed down by the idiotic Gangsta Rap culture that has pervaded black communities for the last twenty years. The fact that black men make considerably less income than black women these days probably isn't due to inherently lower ability of black men vs. black women, but more likely because black women tend to be louder and pushier and more assertive of their "rights".
But back to Mr. Ziel's point. If the feminization of teaching is lowering boys' grades, it may not be resistance to learning that is going on, but resistance to indoctrination. That shows a certain innate intelligence on the part of boys, doesn't it, that they can distinguish between being enlightened and being brainwashed? Male students are also often penalized by female teachers on the most subjective grounds, i.e. daydreaming in class and fidgeting in their seats.
The fact that male students still perform better on the SAT probably explains why there is a movement afoot to abolish the SAT. That way, the education establishment can further reduce the ratio of male to female college students which, they no doubt hope, will give a boost to their efforts at socially engineering a female dominated society....Or, maybe I've just been reading too many Fred Reed columns.
Or, maybe I've just been reading too many Fred Reed columns.
Oh, you can't read too many Fred Reed columns...
"But back to Mr. Ziel's point. If the feminization of teaching is lowering boys' grades, it may not be resistance to learning that is going on, but resistance to indoctrination."
Nothing quite so insidious, I think you hit the nail on the head later on in your post...
"Male students are also often penalized by female teachers on the most subjective grounds, i.e. daydreaming in class and fidgeting in their seats."
When most of the teachers are female, it's male behavior like fidgeting that tends to get penalized.
I doubt men are smarter than women overall, but there probably are more men at the upper ends. If nothing else, men are more likely to spende their whole lives trying to become famous at something, whereas women will take time out to raise kids.
