Mayor Bloomberg Opposes Roberts

Liberal Republican - actually, a Democrat who ran as a Republican in the country's most Democratic city in order to get elected(!) - New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg opposes Bush's pick for the Supreme Court. "I am unconvinced that Judge Roberts accepts the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling as settled law," Bloomberg said.
Now, the obsession with Roe among Democrats and liberals aside, what in God's name does the Mayor of New York care about Roe v Wade? New York legalized abortion in 1970 - three years before Roe! If he wants to score points with his liberal voters, why not proclaim that it doesn't matter who's on the Court, "I'll make certain abortion is readily available to any woman for whatever reason at any time in the greatest city in the world..." or some such. Very curious.

Of course Jim, this one is easy. The dems looking to get back the House Senate and White House have been using the fear of back alley abortions to shore up their base, and scare the other pro choice voters Dems need the voters to see any admittedly religious Republican ie.Roberts as a threat because these evil do gooders might rather see a woman wear a scarlet A or bleed to death in the proverbial back alley than allow her her constitutional right to abortion, I mean privacy. Surely the two senators of the great state of NY and the mayor of the city KNOW that abortion is actually legal there, like ya know, a real law, no interprtation needed. Or don't they?

I wouldn't be shocked if Bloomberg doesn't understand that overturning Roe v Wade will have no discernible impact on NYC - I think he's a bit clueless - but I'm sure Schumer and HRC understand it - so, yeah, they're just playing a little demagoguery here - although in Hillary's case she has wider ambition so I suppose she should express concern over abortion law in Mississippi and beloved Arkansas

Hey mom why don't you use a comma once and a while… a period occasionally would help too... Hillary wouldn't dare say a word about it, or anything else involving partiality for that matter. That seems to be the way we elect officials, who ever offends the least wins. On the front page of the times it read, "Chief Justice Nominee, while saying little..." Well no shit he's saying little, he wants to get appointed.

You know, I must say, most blogs have a rather antiseptic, impersonal feel to them. On this blog, you almost get the feeling that everyone knows each other.
