'Conservative' Cluelessness
I just heard Bill O'Reilly make this remarkable statement in arguing that Mexico needs to clean up its economic policies (I'm working from memory here - we can check the "Talking Points Memo" later: "Canada is a prosperous country. There's no reason Mexico can't be just as prosperous as Canada." This is a good example of how even supposed conservatives have been co-opted by Marxist philosophy. There's no difference between Mexicans and Canadians - just a faulty economic system keeping the former down.
O'Reilly is not an aberration - well not in this case - crypto-marxism infects many conservatives leading to some dubious policy positions. Such as school vouchers - black kids would do just as well as white kids if only they didn't have to go to those lousy schools. Or enterprize zones - just lift those onerous taxes in minority neighborhoods and they'll be humming along like silicon valley. Or that spreading democracy will cure third-world ills. Regardless of what reforms are put into place in Mexico, it will never be Canada. People are indeed very different. West Virginians and Minnesotans are different and differ markedly in their achievement, never mind Canadians and Mexicans. Failure to consider this inevitably leads to bad policy.

RINO Alert...........
Dick Morris wrote an article that was syndicated in the local alternative rag in my city. He states the poll numbers that assert the Republical voters WANT the Senate version of the immigration bill (how the wording was presented of course completely hid the fact the Senate bill calls for 66 million legal Mexicans in the next twenty years) over the house bill.
Folks, this means Dick Morris is a LIAR. It means we dont need to read him, and we need to write letters to the editor of any publication that he writes for let the publisher know we will no longer read it until they UNemploy Mr. Morris. Its time for us conservatives to make life economically uncomfy for neo-con hacks. So, if you still have that subscirpt to NR, Weekly SLandard, Well Street Pravda, any Gannett rag that syndicates David Brooks, John Tierney, Rick Horowitz, etc......its time to cancel the subscript and read the American Conservative and Human Events instead. We have got to kick these LIARS off our bus.

In an interview with Dan Seligman (a terrific writer in his own right) Charles Murray diagnoses conservatives who think vouchers will result in equal educational outcomes as enaging in "suspension of belief, defined as basing a public-policy stance on an assumption about human beings that one knows to be untrue of oneself."
Amusingly, Murray notes he wrote in his book "Losing Groung": "I suggest that when we give such parents [who are actively engaged in their child's education] vouchers, we will observe substantial convergence of black and white test scores in a single generation."

Note that not all who favor vouchers are unrealistic about what the results would be.
Milton Friedman, the leading proponent of vouchers, has stated: "Vouchers are not an end in themselves; they are a means to make a transition from a government to a market system."
Friedman has also said:
"Innate intelligence undoubtedly plays a major role in determining the opportunities open to individuals. Yet it is by no means the only human quality that is important, as numerous examples demonstrate. Unfortunately, our current educational system does little to enable either low-IQ or high-IQ individuals to make the most of other qualities".

Anyone here fear that vouchers would lead to some minorities going to "good" schools and still not closing the gap would result in alot of resentment towards whites by those same minorities?
Let me put it this way, an Indian training to run 100 meter dashes can train his butt off, but he wont be better than the black guys that will no doubt represent us at the Olympics next time out. That same Indian may be a little secretely resentful and concoct all sorts of "unfair advantages" in his minds he imagines blacks might have.
"B"-students in voucher schools might begin to resent some of the talented white students who get all "A's" seemingly easily and look ever more stridently for the "cultural racism" all around that made that difference possible. It would be like lunatic feminists who say "science and math patriarical, thus should be eliminated". All because it makes them feel a little bad about themselves.
Everyone here went to school with some guy who didn't have to study, smoked pot, and still aced his algerbra and calculus exams while you toiled your butt off for that "B". C'mon, admit it, no matter how much you liked him personally, his ability secretely annoyed you and you took pleasure at the fact that your body was better than his, you were taller, was a better speaker, or more well-read. Its human nature. I hope we dont end up making a few new Reverend Jackson's with this experiment.
As I have recently argued, since the economic premium from higher intelligence is increasing the gap between the United States and Mexico is widening.
Did you know that the gap between the US and Mexico in per capita GDP is widening? That NAFTA hasn't caused it to narrow? See my post for the details.
I agree with firepundit.

The strongest drive to blend the United States and Mexico doesn't come from liberals; they're just the chumps who accept the idea because it fits their romantic notions about immigrants. No, turning the U.S. into a human waste dump is being advanced above all by supposed conservatives: CEOs, country club Republicans, political manipulators like Dick Morris, economists.
They have no illusions. They know exactly what they want. The history, traditions, and quality of life of the United States are to be exchanged for votes to keep our masters in power and cheap labor to jack up profits and the incomes of an already super-rich and privileged class of corporate mandarins.

Is now the party on the right

"Canada is a prosperous country. There's no reason Mexico can't be just as prosperous as Canada".
How is prosperity being defined? Is it per capita or total gdp per country?
The 2003 World fact book has Mexico @ $900B GDP while Canada is $923B GDP.
On a total GDP basis, both countries are about the same.
Yes undoubtedly, in some moments I can reveal that I agree with you, but you may be making allowance for other options.
