California Senate Favors May Day Boycott

By a 24-13 vote that split along party lines, the Senate approved a resolution that calls the one-day protest the Great American Boycott 2006 and describes it as an attempt to educate Americans "about the tremendous contribution immigrants make on a daily basis to our society and economy."

If Republicans can't capitalize on this then they should de-certify themselves as a 'political' party and close-up shop. But early signs are not encouraging.
Sen. Dave Cox, R-Fair Oaks, said lawmakers should not encourage lawbreakers even if they disagreed with the law. "It is irresponsible for this body to advocate that students leave school for any reason," Cox said.
Attaway to rally the troops, there, Dave!

Is it written anywhere that success breeds stupidity? Because we certainly are, collectively, a stupid nation, even though a fair amount of smart people reside here.

And how did the word "illegal" get dropped when we talk about immigration?

Anonymous has it exactly right (why "anonymous"?)when he points out the substantial distinction between legal and illegal immigration.

Clearly, legal immigration built this country. Without it, Ziel would be blogging out of East Germany after finishing his shift at the (fill in the blank) factory.

Illegal immigration is a wholly different animal and the drain on our economy is well documented, whether it be understaffed & ineffective border patrol costs, free education, free medical care or crime for those illegals too unskilled to cut lawns or lay bricks. To celebrate illegal immigration is to celebrate anarchy.

A celebration of successful, legal immigration is long overdue. I'm shocked that legal immigrants are not more vocal on the illegal immigration issue. The current debate seems to be such an insult to those that "did it right" that I can't believe their general silence.

To me, the argument that the illegals do the jobs that we won't do rings so hollow. I've seen stories of legal Polish immigrants in Chicago who were teachers in Poland waxing the floors in schools at night waiting for openings in the teacher ranks. If we, in fact, have jobs that Americans won't do, then allocate a certain number of aliens to come in to do those jobs. It can still be done legally, with people who pay taxes, get insurance and participate in society as welcome additions to our country. The fact is that certain industries (landscape, roofing, construction, etc) are trying to maximize profits by exploiting illegals at the expense of our economy and society. No other country in the world would put up with, and increasingly, support this invasion.

Well, no country other than France anyway.

Illegal immigration is a wholly different animal"

The problem with this line of thought, Harlem, is the sheer *numbers* of legal immigrants we allow in every year, close to 1.4 million. It's way too damn high, it taxes the neighborhoods and local environments of the places into which the immigrants flood, it pushes up US oil consumption even further (thus getting us even further ensnared in the deadly tentacles of resource wars like the one in Iraq), and in general it overloads our schools and contributes to some nasty ethnic conflict. Thus the "legal immigrant quota" problem is in fact much worse than the illegal problem.

In states like California, New Mexico and much of Illinois and Florida, white children are an increasingly dwindling minority in the schools, and approaching (or already reached) an overall demographic minority in total population. This is chiefly a result of the inordinately high legal immigration numbers since the 1990 law that Bush I signed, which in turn allows chain migration and other exponential-expanding policies to proceed uninhibited.

I think it's fine to take in quality legal immigrants every year, but the numbers should be much smaller, maybe 100,000 whereabouts, with changes in the laws to block chain migration. The population is headed for perhaps 340 million in less than 20 years at the current levels, and even more dangerously, whites will be a minority very soon, in about that 20-year time horizon in fact.

We would wind up with a very crowded, polluted, dirty, environmentally ruined, oil-dependent, generally ruined nation with an ever-dropping white minority that is nonetheless economically privileged, the perfect storm for ugly social unrest. I'm already encountering dozens of white professionals so fed up that they're actually moving to European countries, and the numbers are accelerating. (They're moving to the less Marxist countries on the Continent at least, Britain and France are almost as bad as California in their "diversity obsession". In fact, the UK is probably even worse than France in the multi-culti madness department-- the French at least have a fine tradition of deporting North Africans they don't like, in Britain it's open season on the traditional culture there.) Besides the immigration policies, other inanities such as the increasing political correctness insanity of our schools, and the atrocious divorce laws in states like California (which are incredibly punitive to productive people and fail to take into account their educational costs and contributions to the economy) have the effect of driving out productive whites. Many are driven out of the country entirely, while those who aren't, leave the states being most flooded with immigrants. I certainly see no point in staying in California anymore. As a white, your choice is either to stay on the unaffordable coast, surrounded by hostile black and Mexican neighborhoods who've painted a bullseye on your back, or go to the Central Valley, which is basically one gigantic pothole on the map. (I know, I once lived there for a short while.) Steve Sailer said as much in one of his columns about a year ago.

The upshot is that the US has a stark choice. Either we sharply reduce the numbers of immigrants flooding in every year through chain migration. Or we brace ourselves for the break-up of the United States along some sort of ethnic dividing line pattern, possibly with violence, within about 20 years.
